Joyce Parker Massengill, 92, a long-time resident of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully on November 21st, 2016, in Cincinnati, OH. Joyce was born in Hertford County, NC on April 16th, 1924 to the late Lloyd James Parker and Cora Beverly Parker of Murfreesboro, NC.

Joyce graduated from Murfreesboro High School in 1941 as valedictorian and she received her business degree from Hardbarger Business College, Raleigh, NC, in 1943. Joyce Parker Massengill, 92, a long-time resident of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully on November 21st, 2016, in Cincinnati, OH. Joyce was born in Hertford County, NC on April 16th, 1924 to the late Lloyd James Parker and Cora Beverly Parker of Murfreesboro, NC.

Joyce graduated from Murfreesboro High School in 1941 as valedictorian and she received her business degree from Hardbarger Business College, Raleigh, NC, in 1943. Her career included employment with the US Selective Service System during World War II, the US Property & Fiscal Office of the North Carolina Army National Guard, and the Department of Statistics of NC State University. Joyce left the university with the founders of SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC as the first employee, retiring from SAS as Corporate Treasurer in 1990.

Joyce served as a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC for over 60 years including serving 32 years in the Nursery/Preschool Department.

Joyce married the late Hugh P. Massengill, Sr. on December 10th, 1949 at Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Ahoskie, NC. They were married for 64 years. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Massengill Shull and her husband, Gary E. Shull, of Cincinnati, Ohio, two sons, H. Paschall Massengill, Jr. and his wife Marcia Murray Massengill, of Tullahoma, Tennessee, and Lloyd W. Massengill and his wife, Cheryl Lewis Massengill of Nashville, Tennessee, eleven grandchildren and one great-grand child.

She is also survived by her brother G. Bernard Parker and his wife, Barbara Jones Parker, of Advance, NC, and sister-in-law, Marion Petrie Parker, of Woodruff, SC.

Joyce is preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen Parker Allen of Raleigh, NC and Vivian Parker Futrell of Murfreesboro, NC, and two brothers, Joseph B. Parker of Woodruff, South Carolina, and L. Alton Parker of Murfreesboro, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm with visitation at 1:00pm on Saturday December 3rd, 2016 at the Raleigh Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum (adjacent to Mitchell Funeral Home) at 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC, 27612. Graveside service to follow on site.
